Subway Entrance on N Street, Vedado.
A metropolitan subway system for Havana was first considered in 1921. The on again, off again project was revived in the 1980’s with Soviet support. Described as the largest public works project ever undertaken in Cuba, it had an estimated price tag of $900 million dollars. Construction came to a halt with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. This hillside tunnel opening on N Street is said to be the entrance to an abandoned underground station.
